Introductions

I'm a third year Chemistry student, living near London in a group of 8 hungry penny stretched people. This blog is trying to make the most out of our pennies, because eating a varied diet is important for our health (mental and physical). I've started with some savory 'treats'.

All prices given are in UK prices, from the stores I got them from. I do try to shop around a little and get good value, but I'm sure their is better value out there. Prices are also given either £ / kg, or £ / packet size. Not all the ingredients listed will be completely used up, some are just staples that are useful to have nearly all the time such as flour.

All recipes are examples.

Soon their shall be included my shopping lists as an example of how to plan a week shop for a budget.

Essentials I try not to run out of for very long, are;
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Flour
  • Tinned tomatoes
  • Dry Pasta
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Then for added extra if/when affordable;

  • Dried herb ( Mixed, Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme....)
  • Pot of living herbs ( Chives, Thyme, Basil, Coriander... ), see specific page.
  • At least one form of Chilli ( Fresh, Dried, Powder or Flakes )
  • Spices
